The famous French 20th century composer Olivier Messiaen (1908-1992) considered birds to be great musicians and used many elements of bird song in his music. Combining them with influences from Oriental and antique rhythm patterns, he created a unique sonic language with an added system of note values that presents truly mathematical challenges for musicians.
