The History of Pärnu

Pärnu is a resort city with a rich culture and romantic streets and a history dating back to the 13th century. Pärnu-Jõesuu has been inhabited for more than 11,000 years already. A good location along the sea and the river has shaped Pärnu into the city it is today.

In the Middle Ages, Pärnu was a port of historical importance in the import of goods. In 1838, the first bathing establishment was opened here and the history of the development of Pärnu as a resort began.
