In February 2025, the KYIV GRAND BALLET will once again bring to Estonia the timeless masterpiece by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky — Swan Lake. Rightfully regarded as one of the most famous, frequently performed, and, by many accounts, most exquisite works in the history of world ballet, this iconic production has continued to captivate audiences since its premiere in 1877.
Swan Lake represents the pinnacle of classical dance in its modern embodiment. This ballet tells a profound story of love, loyalty, and the eternal struggle between light and darkness, symbolized by the dual roles of the White Swan and the Black Swan.
More than just the creation of a single composer, Swan Lake has become a treasured part of humanity’s cultural heritage. In light of recent events, including Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, there have been debates surrounding the performance of works by Russian composers. However, this legendary neo-romantic ballet, composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky over a century before the Russian Federation existed, bears no connection to modern political conflicts. Its immortal music and narrative are universal, transcending time and place.
The roles of Odette and Odile will be performed Ana Sophia Scheller, an American ballerina of Argentinian origin, who has graced the stage as a principal dancer with the New York City Ballet and, from 2019 to 2022, as a principal with the National Opera and Ballet Theatre of Ukraine. The role of Prince Siegfried will be danced by Viktor Tomashek, a celebrated Ukrainian performer, laureate of numerous international competitions, and graduate of the Kyiv State Choreographic School.
The dancers of the KYIV GRAND BALLET enchant audiences with their technical brilliance, exquisite musical interpretation, and ethereal movements. Stunning costumes and magnificent stage designs transform each performance into a true delight for ballet aficionados.
Since its inception, the KYIV GRAND BALLET has won the hearts of audiences in the United States, Canada, Australia, Europe, and Scandinavia. While the majority of the troupe’s dancers are Ukrainian, its members also include performers from Japan, the United States, and Italy.
We invite you to immerse yourself in this enchanting tale of love, where the Swan Queen can be saved only by true devotion. In the hands of the KYIV GRAND BALLET, Swan Lake will be presented in its most beautiful and classic interpretation.
