Rait Pärg was born on June 2, 1966, in Pärnu. After graduating from Pärnu Secondary School No. 1, he studied artistic stone carving at the Tartu Art School from 1981 to 1985 and sculpture at the Tallinn Art University from 1985 to 1994. He began actively participating in exhibitions in 1989.

Alongside teaching at the Pärnu Art School, Pärnu Free School, and the German School of Technology, Rait Pärg worked for decades as a freelance artist. He participated in numerous Estonian and international wood, snow, ice, and sand sculpture symposia. In addition to sand, snow, ice, and wood, he also worked with bronze, aluminium, dolomite, granite, wax, and concrete.

As sculptor he is best known as the creator of the musical statue of Raimond Valgre located next to the Pärnu Beach Kuursaal, as well as the “Monument of Love” in Valgeranna. He was a tireless organiser and driving force behind sculpture-related festivals and events, participating in numerous ice and sand sculpture festivals and competitions both in Estonia and abroad.

Pärg’s body of work also includes the memorial to the Estonian kroon on Kanali Street in Pärnu, the memorial “To Dead Fish” by the Vallikraav moat, the Rääma School alumni bench, the twisted benches in Jakobson Park, and the shell-shaped street bollards that decorate the cityscape. He was also the visionary and creator of the sculpture alley in Pärnu Beach Park, personally ensuring that the city’s sculptures remained clean and well-maintained.

He’s contribution to shaping Pärnu’s urban space, as well as to cultural organisation and education, is more than remarkable. Both he and his legacy will remain forever in the memory and hearts of the people.
