Pärnu is accessible by bus and car. Pärnu also has a small cruise port and an airport. Pärnu enjoys a favourable location, being only a 90-minute drive from Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, and a two-hour drive from Riga, the capital of Latvia. Both big cities are home to international airports. Estonia’s cities have an excellent connection by bus to Pärnu.
Arriving by plane
The closest airports to Pärnu are in Tallinn and Riga.
Estonia’s biggest airport, Tallinn Airport, is located four kilometres from the city centre of Tallinn. It is possible to rent a car at the airport and move on from there to Pärnu. Another option is to travel by bus/taxi/tram to the Tallinn Bus Station, and then travel to Pärnu by bus. A total of 40 international routes pass through Tallinn Airport.
Riga Airport is located 13 km from the City Centre of Riga and is the largest airport in Latvia and the Baltics. Eight million passengers pass through the airport each year, and the airport offers a connection to nearly 80 international destinations.
Riga Airport is located 190 kilometres from Pärnu. It is possible to rent a car at the airport or make your way to the Riga International Coach Terminal.
Pärnu Airport has undergone reconstruction and is serving flights to Ruhnu.
Arriving by sea
Each day, dozens of ships arrive at the Port of Tallinn, mainly from Finland and Sweden, although it is possible to arrive from further away aboard a cargo ship or cruise ship. The Port of Tallinn is located in the city centre of Tallinn, approximately 130 km from Pärnu. Timetables can be found on the port’s website.
During the summer season, it is possible to arrive via cruise ship at the Port of Pärnu, located in the city centre of Pärnu. Most cruise ships stop in Pärnu for one day.
Pärnu Yacht Club Marina makes it possible to arrive in Pärnu on one’s own yacht or other vessel. The Yacht Club Marina is located a short walk from the city centre.
Arriving by bus
International busses arrive at the Pärnu Bus Station from several major European cities:
- Riga
- Vilnius
- St. Petersburg
- Minsk
Busses also travel between the various areas of Pärnu County.
Busses travel directly from the Tallinn Bus Station to Pärnu. Buses travel between the Pärnu and Tallinn bus stations at intervals of 30 minutes to 1 hour.
