Times and prices
15.04.26 - 07.05.26
From 15 April to 7 May, Pärnu Artists' House Gallery will be showing "Floating", an exhibition of drawings and environmental installations by Kate Seržāne (LV). The opening will take place on 15 April at 5 PM. You are warmly welcome to attend!
“Our genetic makeup includes an inherent and unbreakable connection to nature. It is as if the nature allows us, as if it beckons us to hug a tree, converse with the sea, or simply stick one’s hand into the soil. To feel something and to surrender to something. It’s a time of working on oneself — a burst of creative energy. One should do what they do best, because not doing it is not an option. It is like a never-ending dive - the deeper you get, the more thrilling it gets. Splash!”
The artist is already known for work that finds its inspiration in nature – in the world of water, into which she has drifted herself imperceptibly. The works in "Floating" are united by a search for the water's surface. At the heart of this is the sensation of presence – something Kate seeks to catch and extend, opening the work to wider interpretation. Her large-format charcoal and sepia drawings capture the vibrations of water – the touch of wind and light on the surface, its movement, flow and rhythm. Precise, evocative and felt to perfection. The exhibition also includes smaller mixed-media works depicting life beside, above and on the water – among them the occasional drawing of fish, once Kate's greatest source of inspiration. Yet in delving into the world fish inhabit and the water they cannot live without, the artist has found herself in far deeper waters – literally and figuratively.
Kate Seržāne (1980) was awarded a Master's degree in Graphic Arts from the Art Academy of Latvia in 2006. Although Kate is a traditional graphic artist, her artistic ambitions frequently reach well beyond the discipline, including into performance. When drawing, she is like a fish in water!
