Soloist: Hans Christian Aavik (violin)

One of the most internationally renowned Estonian instrumentalists Kalev Kuljus will perform Rasmus Puur’s oboe concerto, written especially for Kuljus. R. Schumann’s “Spring Symphony” brings the season to a festive close
The virtuoso brothers have never performed together as conductor and soloist in front of the Pärnu audience before, which makes the concert particularly special.
On 3 March 2023, the Pärnu City Orchestra will perform a unique concert at Pärnu Concert Hall, featuring brothers Henri Christofer Aavik and Hans Christian Aavik as the conductor and the soloist. Henri Christofer Aavik, a talented young conductor, was awarded the annual prize of the Estonia’s Cultural Endowment for the Performing Arts on 1 October, the Music Day. It is also noteworthy that both he and his brother have reached the top of their profession – Hans Christian, a violinist, was also awarded the Cultural Endowment Prize. Hans won this year’s Carl Nielsen International Competition, one of the world’s top ten competitions for classical musicians.
Unlike his brother, Henri Christofer has relatively little performed in Estonia – he has been away for years studying: for a long time at the Weimar Conservatory in Germany, as an exchange student at the Zurich School of the Arts in Switzerland, and now in Amsterdam and The Hague. He recently won two important competitions: first prize at the Jorma Panula Competition in Finland and second prize at the Svetlanov Competition in Monaco.
