Age Juurikas is one of the most truly unique Estonian pianists, who has established herself with a bold and wide range of repertoire.
Her debut album ‘The Soul of Fire’ was awarded the title of Chamber Music Album of the Year, and she has also been awarded several prestigious recognition awards in Estonia, such as the ‘Neeme Järvi Award’ and the annual award of the Sound Arts Endowment Fund of the Estonian Cultural Foundation.
Age has performed both solo and in chamber ensembles with many well-known Estonian and foreign mucisians almost all over Europe and North America and came on stage as a soloist in front of several orchestras, including the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, Tallinn Chamber Orchestra, Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, National Academic Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine. She has collaborated with such conductors as Neeme Järvi, Kaspars Putniņš, Arvo Volmer, Risto Joost, Kaspar Mänd, etc.
Age considers the performance of new music indispensable and cooperates with several composers. When designing her concert programs, she tries to swim against the current – and goes beyond the framework of classical works that have been played thousand times offering the audience newer and less performed pieces.
She participated in several large-scale contemporary music projects, such as Grisey’s “Vortex temporum”, Stockhausen’s “Mantra” and others. She was the first in Estonia to perform Toivo Tulev’s piano concerto “Nada”, the extensive solo work “Augmentations” and Tatjana Kozlova-Johannes’ piano concerto “Blow your house down”.
Age Juurikas has recorded all of Mart Saare’s piano preludes, Skrjabin’s, Albénize’s piano works, as well as newer Estonian chamber and piano music in various ensembles in the ERR archive.
Since 2017, Age is an ERP artist.
