“Roosimine” (inlay knitting) workshop at Tõstamaa Craft Centre
In this workshop, you will learn the specific techniques of roosimine, also known as inlay knitting, and make a small pincushion.
Roosimine is a technique where a stocking surface is knitted with the main color, and the pattern thread moves to the front and back of the work, similar to the pre-stitch used in embroidery.
Over a century and a half ago, women in the Tõstamaa region began knitting stockings and gloves with a “rose” decoration on a white base, the fine but densely woven surface covered with rich, mainly red-toned rosette patterns. The more extravagant ones have rosettes, fringe rows, writing, twisted cords and wicking.
Come and put your craft skills to the test!
