Guided tour “On the Trails of Mighty Women in Pärnu’s History”
“Water works wonders when women hold it in their mouths,” wrote Otto Wilhelm Masing in Näddala Leht in 1821. In two hundred years, much water has flowed into the sea, and society has changed significantly. During this time, women have boldly stood up for their principles, shaped education, culture, and politics, and left a mark on the history of Pärnu and Estonia.
The tour uncovers stories that men’s great deeds have often overshadowed. On the walk, you will hear how women wrote themselves into history and whose actions have carried forward our culture and spirit.
The journey takes you through places associated with the activities of remarkable women. We visit Koidula Park, step onto Freedom Square, view the churches of Eliisabet and St. Catherine’s, and talk about girls’ schools where new generations of independent, educated women were raised.
This is a journey that connects history with the present, showing how the streets of Pärnu preserve women’s stories that deserve remembrance and respect.
