Discover the history behind Tõstamaa’s beautiful folk costumes!

Folk costumes embody ancestral values, the power of familial roots, and identity – each stitch and ribbon tells its own story.

The rich history of Estonian folk costumes is recounted by a Tõstamaa handicraft master, who traces influences from different regions and reveals how festive peasant attire evolved into folk costumes. Special attention is given to the clothing of men, women, and children in Tõstamaa.

During the workshop, we dress a member of the Tõstamaa Handicraft Center in a folk costume, starting with the undershirt and ending with the shawl, to see how traditional clothing is worn layer by layer and becomes a living part of our heritage.

The workshop allows you to learn, discover, and inquire, and to leave with knowledge that brings folk costumes to life in today’s world.
