The exhibition "Terribly Cute Bat" brings you the mysterious life and existence of bats. Come walk in the nightly forest, search for bats in a cave with the help of a flashlight, observe their flight on a summer night, and learn about the most common myths!
Much mystique and mystery are associated with bats—they are like nocturnal apparitions, silently flapping in the air currents and swooping against the sky. They constantly amaze even scientists who have studied them for decades. Who are they?
Evolution and physiological peculiarities, species diversity, diet, migration, importance, protection and preservation, myths, folklore, and pop culture—all these topics are covered in the exhibition hall. How did such creatures come to be? Why do bats hang upside down? How do they do it? What do bats eat? Why have bats chosen the "night shift," and how have they adapted to it? Why shouldn't hibernating bats be disturbed? Why should bats be protected and preserved? You will find answers to all these and many other exciting questions at the exhibition!
In the exhibition hall, you'll find numerous exhibits to help you better understand the life of bats. For instance, you can become a bat: hang like a bat, compare the structure of your hand to a bat's wing, listen to the world through a bat's ear, crawl into a cave crevice, and experience what it's like to be a hibernating bat. If you wish, you can also become a bat researcher: test your accuracy and sharpness in distinguishing species, search for bats in a cave with a flashlight, touch and compare what bats are like when they are hibernating and awake, peek at bats dozing in a tree hollow during the day, and at a nesting colony located between the walls of an old house…
The exhibition is curated by the Estonian Museum of Natural History in collaboration with partners.
