Spring Training of the Estonian Zither Association "Jaak Sooäär Rhythm Music Workshop"

 

Location: Blue Hall, Pärnu School of Arts

When: April 12th from 12:00 to 15:00 
Target group: Chromatic and small zither players, teachers, students, and other enthusiasts.

The theme of the workshop is accompaniment arrangement based on chord symbols. Familiarization with the basic rules of voice leading with different chord types and circle of fifths moving harmony based on Kustas Kikerpuu's book “Jazz Harmony”. In addition, there is an introduction to the principles of improvisation in both functional and modal harmony environments. The workshop begins with a theory lecture, followed by a practical session where participants can try accompaniment arrangement and improvisation on their instruments.

 

Schedule:
12:00-13:30 Theory and ensemble playing
13:30-13:45 Break
13:45-15:00 Ensemble playing

The workshop fee includes:
• Sheet music for five pieces by Jaak Sooäär, which will be covered in the workshop, and his chord symbol chart as PDF files.
• Snack table during the break. 
• Free ticket to the evening concert “To the Other Shore”, which takes place in the attic hall of Pärnu School of Arts at 17:00. Bonus opportunity to perform with Jaak Sooäär, Ella Maidre, Tuule Kann, and Pille Karras..
• Special offer at restaurant Barbara.
