The story of this production actually began three summers ago when Pikavere staged Urmas Lennuk - Raivo Trass's "Oh, Brothers".
It was then that a nice local lady joined the theater group and mentioned that the yellowed leaflet seen in the production's social media photo, with song lines written by Horrible Ants himself, came from her relative Hilka's diary.
Hilka, a young girl from the Pikavere area, who turned 14 in the late spring of the end of World War II, had been a dedicated diary keeper for years. In her old age, she had rewritten her youthful diaries neatly into uniform notebooks. These very notebooks were brought to us to read by Mrs. Ülle.
And it was precisely these diaries that inspired Urmas Lennuk to write a new play.
The one that is now named "On the Road to Arcadia. The Story of the Forest Brother's Bride".
But it could also be named "Here and Now", because
in this story, times and tales intersect. History and life stories. The story of the Estonian state and the story of the Estonian person.
Choices that seem impossible but were the only possibilities. In that time, here and now. And hasn't every moment once been "here and now"...
The performance is staged in the powerful manor-sized former Pikavere parish house only ten times:
on the 30th and 31st of May,
on the 6th, 7th, 8th, 12th, 13th, 15th, 21st, and 22nd of June, starting at seven in the evening.
The hall can accommodate an audience of around one hundred and fifty people.
"ON THE ROAD TO ARCADIA. The Story of the Forest Brother's Bride" is a conceptual continuation of the legendary forest brother Horrible Ants' story "Oh, Brothers" that was performed in Pikavere in June 2022.
And it's our bow to Raivo Trass (12.03.1946-7.06.2022), for whom this production was his last...
The production is supported by the Estonian National Culture Foundation and the Estonian Cultural Endowment Pärnumaa expert group.
