The story of this production actually began three summers ago when Urmas Lennuki-Raivo Trass's "Ai, velled" was performed in Pikavere.
It was then that a lovely local lady approached the theater troupe and said that the yellowed book cover seen in the social media photo of the production, containing song lyrics written by Hirmus Ants in his own hand, came from her relative Hilka's diary.
Hilka, a girl from the Pikavere region who turned 14 at the end of World War II, had been a dedicated diarist. For years. In her old age, she had carefully rewritten her youthful diaries into matching notebooks. It was these very notebooks that Mrs. Ülle brought us to read.
And it was precisely these diaries that inspired Urmas Lennuk to write a new play.
The play now bears the title "On Arcadia Road. The Story of the Forest Brother's Bride."
But it could also be called "Here and Now," because
in this story, times and tales intersect. History and life stories. The story of the Estonian state and the story of the Estonian individual.
Choices that seem impossible but were the only possible ones. In that time, here and now. And isn't every moment once "here and now"...
The performance is played ten times in the grand manor-like former municipal building of Pikavere:
on May 30 and 31,
June 6, 7, 8, 12, 13, 15, 21, and 22, starting at seven in the evening.
The hall can accommodate an audience of one hundred and fifty people.
"ON ARCADIA ROAD. The Story of the Forest Brother's Bride" is a conceptual continuation of the story of the legendary forest brother Hirmus Ants "Ai, velled," which was performed in Pikavere in June 2022.
And our bow to Raivo Trass (12.03.1946-7.06.2022), for whom this production was his last...
The production is supported by the Estonian National Cultural Fund and the expert group of the Cultural Endowment of Estonia in Pärnumaa.
