Haabjakoda is located in the former fire brigade building, where the history and contemporary use of aspen boats are introduced. The NGO Haabjakoda was founded at the beginning of 2025 by Mehis Born and Aivar Ruukel with the aim of preserving and promoting the tradition of building haabjas (dugout canoes).
The exhibition explains the role of dugout canoes in the Soomaa floodplain, their use on the historical Pärnu-Peipsi waterway, and the reasons why the Soomaa haabja culture is included in the UNESCO intangible cultural heritage list.
