Pärnu Museum's Lecture Series "In the Tracks of Time"
On March 6th, at 17:30, Anu Randmaa will give a lecture titled "Traditional Clothing Then and Now".
The lecture covers the following topics: how peasant festive clothing became the most ceremonial garments in contemporary Estonia; what the significance of traditional clothing is; why people desire to make and own traditional clothing; how traditional clothing is researched, made, and taught.
Anu Randmaa graduated from Tallinn University with a degree in handicrafts and home economics. She holds a master's degree in educational sciences and a level VII professional certificate as a national costume master. Anu has been involved in researching and making traditional clothing since the year 2000. She is one of the leaders of the Traditional Clothing Council at the Handicraft Society.
As a co-author of the book on Pärnumaa traditional costumes, Anu has researched the clothing of Pärnumaa parishes, especially the garments of Varbla, Audru, Mihkli, and Saarde.
Since 2003, Anu has been heading the national costume sub-union of the Estonian Folk Art and Craft Union. At the beginning of 2008, the sub-union became the independent NGO Rahvarõivas, which also established the Traditional Clothing Advisory Center and Training Center.

Teachers are asked to acquire a 0-ticket in pre-sale.
Participation is free with a museum card.
The lecture series is intended as in-service training for general education school teachers and is FREE for them. During the 2024/2025 season, 7 lectures will take place, 3 of which will be on the topic of traditional clothing. If attending at least five lectures, Pärnu Museum will issue a certificate. Participation in the lecture series does not grant course credits.
The final lectures of the 2024/2025 season will take place on March 27th and April 24th. Changes to the schedule may occur. Further information will be provided as the event approaches.
