Lecture Series "In the Footsteps of Time": Inna Raud's Lecture "Symbols in Folk Costumes - What Stories Do They Tell?"
Times and prices
24.04.25
On April 24 at 5:30 PM, folk costume expert and national textile lecturer Inna Raud will be at the Pärnu Museum.
The garments we now refer to as Estonian folk costumes developed within peasant culture based on the needs and possibilities of that time. In the lecture, we will talk about folk costumes as heritage, trying to see symbolic aspects in the details. Awareness and understanding of what is seen in historical (folk) clothing culture form the basis for developing values in the present day.
Inna Raud is the Head of the Textile Department and a lecturer at the University of Tartu Viljandi Culture Academy. She is the author or co-author of several publications and articles (for example, Vändra parish folk costumes, Pärnumaa folk costumes, Pärnumaa aprons, Seto folk costumes, etc.). Inna is also the coordinator and teacher of the Viljandimaa Folk Costume School and participates in the advisory work on folk costumes in both Viljandimaa and Pärnumaa. She has made Vändra, Ruhnu, and Halliste folk costumes for herself and is currently working on the Tori folk costume set.
Tickets are available for €6 in advance and on-site before the event.
Teachers are requested to acquire a 0-ticket in advance.
Participation with a museum card is free.
*The lecture series is intended as further education for general education school teachers and is FREE for them. During the 2024/2025 season, 7 lectures will take place, 3 of which are on the topic of folk costumes. If a teacher attends at least five lectures, Pärnu Museum will issue a certificate. Participation in the lecture series does not grant academic credits.
