On March 6th at 5:30 PM, Anu Randmaa will deliver a lecture "Folk Costume Then and Now".
The lecture addresses the following topics: how the festive clothes of peasants became the most festive garments in modern Estonia; the significance of folk costumes; why people wish to make and own folk costumes themselves; how folk costumes are researched, made, and taught.
Anu Randmaa graduated from Tallinn University with a degree in handicraft and home economics. She holds a master's degree in educational sciences and a Level VII professional certificate as a folk costume master. Anu has been involved in the research and making of folk costumes since the year 2000.
As a co-author of a book on Pärnumaa folk costumes, Anu has researched the garments of Pärnumaa parishes, especially those of Varbla, Audru, and Tõstamaa.
Since 2003, Anu has been the head of the Estonian Folk Art and Craft Union's folk costume sub-union. At the beginning of 2008, the sub-union became an independent NGO Folk Costume, which also established the Folk Costume Advisory Board and Training Center.
