Over two hundred years old, the attic of the main building of the University of Tartu hides the university's historic confinement room, or detention cell – a testament to the academy's former extensive self-governance and vibrant student life. No student has been sent there to reflect on their actions for a long time, and the confinement room has become part of the University of Tartu Museum.

The exhibition "On Water and Bread" showcases the imaginative drawings of artist Kristina Viin, which were created in the fall of 2022 for the book by Ken Ird and Kristiina Tiideberg "Stories of the University of Tartu's Detention Cell" (University of Tartu Museum, 2023). Eight illustrations have been selected for the exhibition.

The illustrator of the detention cell book, Kristina Viin, is an Estonian artist, illustrator, and poet. She is part of the women's art group Delegation K, associated with Tartu. Kristina Viin graduated from the Tartu Higher Art School as a sculptor and completed her bachelor's degree in theology at the University of Tartu in 2020; she is currently pursuing her master's degree there. She has illustrated poetry collections, children's books, and other publications, and her drawings and paintings have been exhibited in Estonia and Finland.
